BSI
We have participated in the drafting of two British Standards relating to eLearning. In both cases, the drafting process was put out to competitive tender by BSI and eventually subcontracted to a consortium led by Seb Schmoller.
The drafting of BS8419 - Interoperability between Metadata Systems used for Learning, Education, and Training - was carried out by a team including David Jennings and Futurate. Futurate led on the drafting of part 1 and K-Int led on the drafting of part 2. We completed this work in December 2003, and the drafts for public comment of the two parts of the standard were issued by BSI in Autumn 2004. Since then, we've also helped out (free of charge) in some small re-drafting to take account of comments received.
The team involved in drafting DD8788 - UK Lifelong Learner Profile, "UKLeaP" - was the same with the addition of CETIS personnel (Bill Olivier, Scott Wilson, Simon Grant and Peter Rees-Jones). K-Int led on the production of the UKLeaP XML schema. We completed this work in June 2004, and the development draft, in three parts, was issued by BSI in 2005.
We also undertook a a scoping study for BSI on the market for standards in the area of Information Technology for Education and E-learning (ITEE). This project was led by Mike Collett and also involced Seb Schmoller and Partick Towell. It looked at new business models for the development and promotion of standards in this area and made several innovative proposals.
