We have undertaken a number of consultancy projects to assist and advise policy makers within the UK education sector. Clients include JISC and Becta. Projects include:
- Personalisation in Presentation Services (2004, 2006)
Working with Seb Schmoller and Nicky Ferguson, we won a competitive tender to do a study of personalisation technologies for use in the JISC Information Environment. K-int contributed to the literature review and provided the main technical input to the study. We completed this work in July 2004. We subsequently re-visited this work, in 2006, running a workshop for JISC to provide input to policy development around new funding programmes.
- Learning Platform Guidelines (2006)
We were part of a diverse team which produced the the technical specification for Becta's Learning Platform procurement framework.
- A Comparative Review of Federated Resource Discovery Systems (2007)
Produced by a team led by k-int, this internal report details standards and current practice in five areas: metadata; exposing content; search infrastructures; presentation of results; managing location and identity: resolution systems and discovery services. It describes an overall strategic context and an inclusive overall architecture for federated resource discovery and recommends best practice for different actors based on the research undertaken.
- Good Practice Guidelines for Repository Owners (2008)
This document was p[roduced for Becta and surveys issues raised by current work on repositories for learning materials and makes recommendations for guidelines across eight areas: Standards and specifications, Sharing mechanisms, Marketing to users, User interface, E-safety, Accessibility, Quality, IPRs and copyright. The team, led by k-int, surveyed 70 primary sources, including internal documents supplied by Becta, key published documents and web-based resources including several learning repositories.
- Secure Repository Harvesting (2008)
A specialist technical report for Becta into issues concerned with ingesting content into repositories in a secure manner.
- Resource Discover & Delivery (2009)
We provided consultancy input, along with colleagues, to Becta in the production of the strategy paper Promoting an ecosystem that enables the discovery, delivery and sharing of digital learning resources.
