Data Upload Tool

The Data Upload Tool (DUT) is a desktop program that allows data owners, including institutions contributing to aggregators such as Culture Grid, to 'push' their data to the aggregaotr (as opposed to having it 'pulled' using harvesting protocols such as OAI-PMH.

The original rationale for the development of the tools was to assist smaller institutions who either could not support havesting at all, or who expereinced problems persuading local authority IT suppliers to configure firewalls to allow incoming harvest requests.  Since then it has proved popular with a wide range of organisations who like the combination of being able to control the timing of the supply of data with extensive data verification and de-bugging tools.

Supply of the DUT is often accompanied with a small piece of bespoke development to produce an input filter which transforms the customer's native format into an interchange format (such as pnds-dcap or ese) which is supported by the aggregator.
