iNode

iNode is an open source distributed information retrieval system, based on the JZkit 2 toolkit. The iNode framework is used to provide federated search portals for customers who wish to integrate access a wide variety of resources. The framework is able to use a range of standards based protocols for searching and harvesting from remote repositories and can itself act as a search target or harvestable repository.

Development of iNode was originally driven by the IT For Me project with additional features being added as a result of the Peoples' Network 'Discover' project.

iNode can be deployed in a variety of settings. Rather than being an 'out of the box' solution it is a flexible framework which can be optimised for different applications and domains.

iNode is primarlily a federated search portal.  For applications which require an aggregating solution, Open Data Aggregator has now been separated into its own development stream.  Of course, a hybrid approach is often required and it is possible to combine elements of iNode with ODA to provide a solution tailored to individual requirements.
