Celebrating 25 Years of Knowledge Integration

In November we marked our 25th anniversary with a day of insightful meetings and a vibrant evening celebration in Sheffield. The event brought together employees, friends, and collaborators to commemorate a quarter-century of excellence and innovation.

The day began with two significant meetings with customers and collaborators to discuss projects in two core areas of K-Int: CIIM and Arches

The CIIM User Group gathered participants from museums across the UK, providing a platform to share insights and discuss their latest developments. Highlights from the meeting include:

  • A joint presentation by Science Museum Group and K-Int showcasing solutions around modelling expansive hierarchical and related data, which describes objects comprised of many parts. The team addressed the challenge of translating hierarchical data in Mimsy XG into user-friendly models.
  • A showcase of K-Int’s proof-of-concept tool in the CIIM Management interface, leveraging AWS’s Bedrock AI with Rosetta to enable conversational searching against extracted data. This tool emerged from an AWS-run hackathon earlier in November, with participation from several CIIM team members.

In a parallel session, the K-Int Arches meeting welcomed 11 attendees, including two international visitors from the USA. Presentations and discussions include:

  • Presentation on the history and future of Arches-CIIM integration, originally developed for Manx National Heritage and RCAHMW, now poised for growth with Arches Applications.
  • Update on the Arches QGIS plugin, enabling interaction with Arches through open-source QGIS software.
  • Summary from East Sussex County Council on their migration to the Arches for Historic Environment Records (HERs) platform, hosted by K-Int. A detailed post on this project is coming soon.
  • Update from Farallon Geographics on new features in Arches version 8, applications like Lingo and Arches for Science, and recent implementations.
  • Discussion on new features, improvements, and the release of Arches for HERs.

In the evening, the festivities began as K-Int employees, friends, and long-standing collaborators joined the celebration. The showroom buzzed with lively conversations, shared memories, and reflections on the company’s journey over the past 25 years.

Reflecting on the milestone, the K-Int team expressed gratitude for the partnerships and friendships that have been built over the years. “Our 25th anniversary is not just about looking back on our successes but also about celebrating the people and organizations who have been part of our journey,” said Ian Ibbotson from K-Int. “We’re excited to continue pushing boundaries and making a difference in the cultural heritage sector for years to come.”

We’d like to thank all who joined us over the day and evening. Here’s to many more years of innovation, collaboration, and success!…..
